Black Sunday
Remind you of anything...???
Spooky
Love the hounds of hell...out for a walk
Great imagery...this is where the black and white really works
BLACK
SUNDAY is one of those movies that benefits from being filmed in B/W. I think
if it were ever colorized, that would be a crime. It has this feel about it, at
least to me, that it's entirely suited for that format.
That shot of the moon breaking through the clouds and resonating on the pillar of that castle is pure genius. No doubt Bava's love of painting aided him immensely in a lot of his movies. I can't think of another Italian director who shared this striking visual sensibility. This is Itay’s Frankenstein and Dracula all wrapped into one.
There is one minor flub, though. When Javutich opens the door of the carriage to let Kruvajan inside, you can see what I presume is Bava in the reflection of the glass. LOL
